As the child of a doctor and a lawyer, Imogen learned early on how to fend for herself. Her parents meant well, but they had very demanding jobs. They hired her tutors up until middle school to get her the highest education possible. During her junior year of high school she heard her parents arguing late at night. To stop the argument, she walked downstairs and started a pot of coffee, making as much noise as she could to make her parents stop. At first it worked, but after a few months, they kept arguing past her grinding coffee beans and slammed drawers. When the arguments continued Imogen took to slipping out and studying at all-night diners. Eventually her parents decided to separate for a bit and Imogen’s mother wanted to move back to Brooksfield where her parents were. Imogen didn’t want to leave Los Angeles, but when she asked her dad if she could stay, he told her she would be better off with her mother.

In Brooksfield, Imogen has lost a bit of steam, no longer as engaged in her studies and can often be spotted slinking into a class, late with a cup of coffee in hand. Her grades are passing, but not as good as they used to be. Imogen doesn’t want to make too many friends because she thinks it’s only a matter of time before her mother decides to move back to Los Angeles.

The Vega family is one of the oldest Brooksfield families, and though the older generations were involved in the Witch Council, Johnny’s parents were careful not to involve themselves in witch politics. They wanted to protect their son and keep him from the warfare that was likely to come if the rumors of the demons’ return were true. They told him nothing of their family history, though it was nearly impossible not to stumble upon one person or another that knew of his roots, they also respected his parents’ wishes.

Johnny grew up to be an inquisitive, kind young man. He dabbled in photography from the time that his parents first bought him an old polaroid, and it quickly became a passion of his. He planned to go to an art school after graduating from Brooksfield High, and his parents bought him film and digital cameras so he could expand his portfolio One afternoon, when he was taking photos for a project, he took a picture of someone walking into the woods. He never developed the film, and he kept the strip of negatives hidden in a lockbox under his bed. There’s a picture there that might very well have captured the eyes of a demon. His family constantly talks about the issues in Brooksfield, and The Time Before. He’s not sure what they mean, but he’s pretty sure it has something to do with the recent disappearances, and possibly the negative under his bed.

Ivy was born in Brooksfield to a young couple that had only recently moved into the town. Like many, they wanted to raise a family away from the hustle and bustle of the city, thinking that it would be safer. Despite the rumors of witchcraft, Ivy’s upbringing was fairly normal. Her first year of high school came with the normal teenage hurdles, but it was nothing unusual. It was not until the rumors of odd happenings and a late night out that things took a turn for the young girl.

Ivy had no idea why she started to behave strangely, and at first she thought that she may have contracted some sort of virus or flu. Intense headaches and ravenous hunger would hit her at random intervals, and she nearly considered telling her parents to take her to their doctor. One night, she woke up in the woods covered in blood, with no recollection of how she got there. The eeriest part was that it couldn’t have been her own- there were no injuries on her body, and nothing hurt. She actually felt exhilarated and her headache was completely gone. A student from their school was reported missing the next day. Ivy hasn’t told anyone about that night, but she’s afraid of what is happening in Brookfield- and she’s afraid of herself.

Daniel is not a Brooksfield native, but his mother and father are. They met at Brooksfield High School and moved out of the small town shortly after they married, hoping to live in a larger city for their work. Daniel was born and raised in a in a fast-paced city on the East coast, where he flourished as a street savvy individual with an innovative mind. As a young entrepreneur, he learned to make small trinkets seem valuable to other students with his sharp tongue and ability to sell nearly anything or spin it in a positive light. He learned to adapt to new trends and was well liked by his peers.

When he graduated high school, Daniel had big plans to go to a large university to study communications and become a publicist. That plan was derailed when his parents sat him down and explained to him that he was a witch, that they were former members of the Witch Council and would be moving back to their home town - and that Daniel had an obligation to return with them. His father explained that he would be trained in the family’s craft, as his help was needed in Brooksfield. Daniel had never seen the town before, but the stories of the demons were enough to frighten him and stir some sense of excitement and importance in him. He has agreed to study communications at Brook U, while also preparing to join the Witch Council.

Julian is one of the humans that moved to Brooksfield from a town on the outskirts of the county, with an even smaller population. When people disappeared in his small town, everyone noticed, but it was often attributed to creatures of folklore that lived in the forest. The stories were told to the children to keep them from wandering and misbehaving, and as they grew older many of the young adults regarded them as nothing more than urban legends.

When he graduated high school, Julian moved to Brooksfield to attend Brook U. He entered as an undeclared student trying to find something to keep himself occupied, and is now a senior in college, studying to be a philosopher. Julian is a very serious young man dedicated to his studies- at least, that’s what everyone thinks. He can often be seen wandering around campus at all hours of the night, usually with a disposable cup of coffee in hand. Though he has no friends to speak of, he can often be seen chatting with students at various times on campus. He has skipped a few classes here and there, but he somehow has been able to keep his grades up despite his long hours and occasional disappearances from class. Nobody has really noticed that the few people that spend time around him tend to disappear.

The Kleist family is one of many old Brooksfield families. Allan’s parents are well aquainted with the many witch families in town, though they are not aware that the rumors of witches and demons are true. Despite the fact that generations before them lived with witches for years, they believe that the disappearances are merely rising crime rates, a result of urban influences creeping into the small town.

Allan heard the rumors of witches in his early childhood, but the talk of demons didn’t come until he was in junior high. For years, he hoped that one day his powers would emerge, that he was a witch, himself, given the fact that his family had been in Brooksfield for so long. He almost convinced himself that he was one of them, until he read into his family history and found nothing, not even a witch marrying into the family somewhere down the line. His reading expanded, and he researched demons, finding that humans were said to be possessed by them. Allan is bitter about his lack of abilities, something that he cannot control, and he has been reading up on how to welcome a demon. He is playing with fire, because while he believes that he is strong enough to harness and control the power that a demon would have, he is greatly mistaken.

Kira might be small, but her loud mouth more than makes up for her stature. She was born with a penchant for babbling and listening intently to her parents, with wide eyes and an oddly perceptive look on her face. The young witch grew up in Brooksfield, and she essentially knows everything that there is to know about everyone. From the current gossip about relationships to the latest information on the recent disappearances, if it has happened in Brooksfield Kira is more than likely to know about it. If people want to keep something a secret, they’re careful not to let the girl in on it.

Her nosy nature is what got her into a bit of a predicament - during a meeting between her mother and one of the the women in her book club, she heard something interesting about the recent rumors. While Kira was only listening in for a simple piece of juicy gossip, she overheard talk of demons and possessions. The fact that students at her school were suspected of being possessed was rather shocking, and the talk of a band of witches forming to fight against them was nearly comical. Kira can hardly believe that what she heard is true, but she’s itching to share the information with someone.

Having grown up in Brooksfield, Matilda made strong friendships like most of the other children, at an early age. Her best friend Kristine was always at her side, from the time that they played hopscotch to the times that they were covering for one another with their parents. The two were attached at the hip, and they were fairly well mannered young girls despite their little mischievous streaks.

In the past few months, Matilda has quickly become one of the trouble makers at Brooksfield High. She has suddenly started ditching classes every now and then, and sees the detention room nearly once every week. She has a penchant for storming out of classes and leaving her home without permission, slamming a door behind her - though she never dares to leave after dark for fear of the rumors going around town. Matilda is a kind person at heart, who has taken to some destructive behavior after her best friend disappeared, making the rumored danger in the town a stark reality.

Ella was born in Brookfield two or so years after her parents moved to the small town. They heard that the town was fairly safe and quiet, and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Brooksfield elementary was promising and they even enrolled in a parenting class at the local community center, where Ella met other students in the daycare and built her own little group of friends.

As she got older, Ella became more involved with those friends and spent a lot of time away from home, going to parties or just hanging out at friends’ houses. One night as was walking through town after a small get together, Ella was attacked by something she has yet to identify. She saw a figure move quickly in her peripheral vision before she blacked out. She was found on the sidewalk by Ileen, a nice woman that carried her home and gave her instructions not to wander alone at night again. She sometimes remembers flashes of that night, dark eyes and an ominous feeling, and she swears that she remembers the older woman whispering something to herself about a demon as she carried her home. Ella is not sure how Ileen had the strength to carry her, or what it was that tried to kill her. Her parents did not believe her story, assuming that she was drunk and simply fell. She lives in fear to this day, and is building up the nerve to ask Ileen just what happened that night.

Colton has lived in Brooskfield all of his life, he was well known as a respectful young boy that tagged along behind his father and was constantly washing his red Radioflyer wagon. He attended Brooksfield High and was captain of the football team his junior and senior years. The town was safe when he was younger, and people often roamed the streets late at night, something that Colton took advantage of in his teen years.

These days, Colton is close friends with many of those from his graduating class that stayed in the town. Not to anyone’s surprise, he followed in his father’s footsteps career-wise. He trained to be a firefighter right out of high school, and began working with the fire department as soon as his training was complete. Colton loves his job, though he is called to save kids who have stuck their heads between chair slats more often than he actually gets to put out fires. The number of calls his team gets has increased, however. Colton has seen an odd string of small fires occurring lately, he suspects arson, and he can almost swear that he feels a presence at many of the scenes where the ashes lay.

David is another Brooksfield kid, born and raised in the town of witches, warlocks, and humans. Much of his childhood was spent in his family’s diner, spinning on the bar stools or flicking toothpicks at unsuspecting patrons. He was never a harmful child, but his family’s money eventually got to his head and made him a somewhat bratty young boy. When David’s granfather retired, his grandparents left the diner to his parents, just as his great grandfather had given it to his grandfather, and so on.

The young man refused to work at the diner himself until the day that his parents left the diner to him, when they left Brooksfield after one too many disappearances. David had no choice but to take responsibility and keep the place running. He can be a decent person most of the time, especially after a talking to from his father. Mr. Pollock sat him down before he left Brooksfield to tell him that his great grandparents hadn’t started their business from scratch so he could walk around thinking he was some sort of king. David has since become far more humble and he even works the diner himself, sometimes flipping burgers in the back or mixing shakes and malts for the regular customers.
